We read online that you can only go part way into the cave but now it's completely closed off at the entrance. I guess they have a virtual visit and maybe a fake cave that's open for children but we didn't check it out. I wish it said this on the website. Was still an ok walk to the top just to see the entrance I suppose.
It was very interesting. We thought we could visit it a little bit further, but the information given was welcome. Our guide was very nice. The surroundings are beautiful. It is worth the visit.
It's a world heritage and quite impressive. Since 2006 they dont allow people to go deep into the cave however they have a 3D representation on site. You have to have a reservation before going as the guided tours (and there is no tour without a guide) are taking place with only reservation.
It has a webpage you can see the timing from there. The prices are 5€ for adults and 3€ for under 26, student, kids.
Enjoy.. and dont forget to visit Bosque del Omo after here.
We passed through the cave while we walked up the summit. It was closed with bars, nothing to see from outside. The walk up from this point becomes very technical and beautiful.
Caves are a little underwhelming as they are mostly closed off. However, the guides are informative and the virtual-tour in the nearby chapel is memorable. Nice area. Good inn/restaurant very close by providing plenty of parking and prehistoric-themed kid's play area. The 'Painted Forrest' is an easy country walk from there. A nice, low-key, family day out. Be aware though: plenty of school trips block-book the tours, so on the day you might have to take what you can get - and your guide might not be fluent in English if you cannot bag an 'English' tour.
Nice visit, next to Oma Forest. Need to book in advance. A must if you are travelling around Urdaibai
Magnificent cavern which had inhabitants during iron age and has wall's pictures, nowadays closed to the public for protection and conservation. So, during the visit the picture aren't available to be seen.
Really nice area with lots of natural beauty and varied bird life. We stayed for two nights in our van near the cave. We didn’t actually go in because it’s a 1.5 hour tour which is mostly interactive and was broken. It’s €5 each the tours. The very lovey guy said you can’t go very far into the cave either as it’s quite damaged, so you can’t see the wall paintings. Apparently after years of people going in and then not being protected properly they have degraded quite severely and they are thinking of painting republicans instead.
